FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are you eligible to donate?

You must have title to the vehicle and it must be unencumbered by a lien. Your vehicle does not have to run. However, it must be towable - all 4 tires must be inflated, there shouldn't be any major parts missing, and it must be in a location that is accessible to a tow truck.

How much will I receive?

You might be surprised what your old car is worth! The IRS says you may use any widely used guidebook to determine value. You can find the value of your car by checking these web sites:

www.nada.com

www.edmunds.com

www.kbb.com

You can use the web sites to print the information for your records. When determining the value of your car for the IRS, you should consider the condition of your car and subtract from the listed values for items that detract from your car's value. You'll need to show the IRS how you arrived at the value and that it was reasonable if you are questioned. Be honest - you'll get a very nice deduction, you'll be helping a very good cause, and you'll sleep well at night! (Consult with your tax advisor.)

What is the donation process?

Call us and after we have been provided the needed information we will contact the towing company, which will contact you to arrange a time for a pickup.

What if I don't have a title and my registration isn't transferable?

If you don't have your title and your registration isn't transferable (your registration should say if it is transferable), you will need to request a duplicate title from your local Department of Motor Vehicles. This normally takes about 2 weeks, and costs about $20.

What do you do with the vehicle after I donate it?

Depending on the condition of your vehicle, it will either be sold or salvaged with the proceeds benefiting the transportation needs of people with developmental disabilities.

What is Glenkirk’s mission?

To provide quality, lifetime supports and services which empower individuals with developmental disabilities to participate fully in all areas of community life.
